Historical Background of Ojoku Town
Ojoku community whose existence dated as far back as the 15th Century is located centrally in Oke-Ogun District in the present Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Founded by a group of hunters led by a man named Onisokan, the town grew into an important center of trade, agriculture, and Islamic learning.
Ojoku town is one of the oldest and most ancient towns in the present Oyun Local Government Area.
It shares common boundaries with Ikotun Ile, Okeso (Asa LGA) and Offa (Offa LGA) in the North West, the North and the South respectively.
Ojoku with current population of about 40,000 people now has increased from 26,000 which were projected in 1963 census.
Ojoku is the second largest community in terms of population and landmass, second to Erin-ile in the present Oyun local Government Area of Kwara State.
W. H. Clarks (1854 – 1858) page 160 quoted from his book “Travel and Explorations in Yoruba land”.

At twenty minutes before seven after a fast ride of three hours, we reached the town of Ojoku which judging from the crowd must contain several thousands of inhabitants.
This is one of the oldest towns in Yoruba land being one of the few that escaped the destructive hands of the Fulani’s.
The Community presently has under its area of jurisdictions some other villages namely:

- Falokun Jagun
- Falokun Awesu
- Awoniyi

- Falokun Pannabon
- Gaa Mangoro
- And Gaa Obalowu
Each with its own Traditional Chiefs and Heads respectively.
Neighbor communities with Ojoku are: Ikotun, Igbodun, Okeso, Awoniyi, Ila-market, Idiya, Igbawere and Offa.
Even though the indigenes are mostly Yoruba’s, there are sprinkling numbers of Hausas, Fulanis and Borno settlers who are mostly traders and cattle rearers called “Bororo”.

Hence the Community has no record of communal crisis over the years either within the community or with their neighbors with whom they maintain cordial relationships.
