The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Area Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has taken a monumental step in tackling youth unemployment by empowering young individuals with life-transforming skills through its Youth Transformation Program (YTP).
At the recently concluded YTP Starter Pack Distribution event held in Ilorin, Kwara State, Sodangi Patigi, a representative of the program, urged beneficiaries to utilize their starter packs effectively, paving their way to success. “We will soon see Dangotes, Otedolas, and AA Ranos from among you,” he remarked, igniting hope and ambition among participants.
Dr. Mahmud Umar Muhammad, Director of the Directorate of Community and Rural Development for N-HYPPADEC, emphasized the significance of the initiative in his address. “This skills program is a sustainable youth development scheme designed to combat unemployment among youths, the less privileged, and women.
Beneficiaries are trained in vocations such as tailoring, fashion design, computer studies, hair and beauty art, software maintenance, catering, solar engineering, plumbing, electrical electronics, poultry farming, and fish farming,” he noted.
Empowerment in Action
The program’s highlight included a gala night for beneficiaries, the formal distribution of starter packs, and the presentation of certificates with full Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration.
This package ensures that the participants are not only skilled but also business-ready.
Since its inception in September 2022, the YTP has transformed lives across the six participating states of Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Niger, Plateau, and Kebbi.
Through rigorous screening, youth from riverine communities were placed in certified training centers, equipped with tools, materials, and stipends, and monitored by agencies like the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
A Brighter Future
The initiative’s vision of creating self-reliant and empowered youths continues to yield promising results. Beneficiaries are now equipped to take charge of their future, armed with skills and resources.
This transformative program holds the potential to produce the entrepreneurial giants of tomorrow, fulfilling N-HYPPADEC’s mission to inspire a generation of achievers who will contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond.
For these young individuals, the journey has just begun—turning dreams into reality and aspirations into enterprises.
