Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has launched the Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem for 2025, calling on Nigerians to support the families of fallen soldiers and those incapacitated in service to the nation.
The Governor made the call during the emblem unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, where he announced a N10 million donation to the Nigerian Legion, the organization representing families of deceased soldiers and incapacitated veterans.
Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifices of military personnel who laid down their lives for the peace and unity of the country.
“Let us remember the sacrifices of these gallant men and women who laid down their lives so that we may live in peace and harmony. We have a duty to show our appreciation by contributing generously towards the upkeep of their families,” he said.
He added that supporting the Legion demonstrates that the sacrifices of these heroes were not in vain and encourages active military personnel to serve with courage, knowing their efforts will not be forgotten.
The Governor also urged local governments across the state to mobilize grassroots support for the Nigerian Legion, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the wellbeing of the Legion and its mandate.
Event Highlights
The launch was attended by top government officials, security commanders, and members of the Legion.
Commissioner for Social Development, Olaitan Abosede Buraimoh, described the event as a testament to the state’s appreciation for the gallantry and dedication of the Armed Forces.
Chairman of the Kwara State Nigerian Legion, Retired Brigadier-General Abdulkadir Anigiobi, expressed gratitude to the Governor, noting his historic attendance and donation.
“You are the first Executive Governor of the state to attend our launching and donate to us,” Anigiobi said. He called for continued government support, particularly in the empowerment of Legion members.
