The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, has cautioned tipper drivers against reckless driving along Ganmo, Idofian, Omupo, and other parts of Ifelodun Local Government. He made this remark during a courtesy visit to the state chapter of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria on Tuesday. Addressing key concerns related to road safety, community harmony, and public security, the Chairman, alongside representatives from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Divisional Police Officers, stressed the importance of prioritizing the well-being of Ifelodun residents. He expressed concern over the alarming rise in road accidents and reckless driving incidents, particularly involving tipper drivers, which have led to loss of lives and strained community relationships. “The frequent accidents caused by reckless driving are deeply troubling. There is hardly a week without reports of such incidents, and this cannot continue to be overlooked,” he said. “The local government will no longer tolerate reckless driving that results in the loss of lives. While I have supported the tipper association in various ways, we must strike a balance that prioritizes the safety of our people. “Henceforth, any tipper involved in such acts will be impounded, and stricter measures will be implemented through the legislative framework of the local government,” he warned. The Chairman of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, appreciated the Executive Chairman for his swift intervention. He pledged the union’s commitment to addressing the issue among its members and assured the Chairman of continuous efforts to instill discipline and safety consciousness within the union. He further called on the Federal Road Safety Corps to intensify its efforts in monitoring and apprehending speeding drivers, ensuring that offenders are held accountable.
