Saliu Mustapha Is Causing Chaos in Our LG for Facilitating 500KVA Transformer – Chairman’s AideTension is mounting in Alagbado Layout Community of Ilorin South Local Government, following allegations that the LG Chairman, Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, forcefully removed two transformers, including a 500KVA transformer donated by Senator Saliu Mustapha.For nearly two years, the community suffered a total blackout after its transformer failed, leaving residents and businesses struggling.
Appeals for government intervention went unanswered until February 13, 2025, when the LG Chairman facilitated the installation of a 300KVA transformer—a relief, but insufficient to power the entire community.
To further address the crisis, Senator Saliu Mustapha donated a 500KVA transformer, ensuring wider power distribution. However, in a shocking turn of events, residents claim that Hon. Podo stormed the area with security operatives and removed both transformers without prior notice.In a strongly worded statement, the Concerned Residents of Alagbado Layout accused the chairman of political sabotage and oppression, questioning why he would seize a transformer he did not provide.
“This is not just an act of theft; it is a deliberate attempt to punish us for political reasons. We demand the immediate return of our transformers and the restoration of our electricity,” the statement read.
The community is calling on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Kwara State House of Assembly to intervene and ensure justice is served.In response, the media team of the Ilorin South Local Government in a press statement shared on a popular Kwara based WhatsApp group by Sanni Rufai Gbodofu and obtained by Just Event Online TV on Monday morning, dismissed the allegations as false, blaming Senator Mustapha for allegedly creating division.
According to the statement by Podo New Media, the 500KVA transformer donated by Mustapha was meant for another area lacking electricity, but community members allegedly removed the 300KVA transformer installed by the LG and replaced it with the senator’s donation.
“Senator Mustapha ignored the community’s plight for two years. Now, instead of working with the government, he is stirring up chaos,” the statement alleged.
The LG clarified that both transformers were moved to the LG secretariat in Pake until an agreement is reached between different factions within Alagbado Layout.Despite the LG’s explanation, residents insist the removal of the transformers was unjustified and politically motivated. They have vowed to seek legal redress if the matter is not resolved.
