In a passionate statement, the Coalition of Kwara North Groups (CKNG), led by Sukari Mohammed Alhaji, has voiced deep concerns over the delayed payment of November 2024 salaries by the Kwara State Government.
The coalition highlighted the distress faced by state workers who are now struggling to meet basic needs due to the delay.
The CKNG, speaking on compassionate grounds, called for the immediate and unconditional payment of all outstanding salaries to alleviate the financial strain on civil servants.
They emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that many workers are unable to support their families, pay school fees, or access essential healthcare services.
Adding to the controversy, the coalition also criticized the state government’s recent directive requiring all civil servants to register with the Kwara State Resident Registration Agency (KWASSRA) as a precondition for receiving their salaries.
The CKNG described the policy as untimely and counterproductive, especially given the ongoing salary delays.
“This policy is adding unnecessary stress to the lives of hardworking civil servants who are already dealing with financial uncertainty,” the statement read. “We urge the government to reconsider this decision and adopt a more humane approach that prioritizes the welfare of its workforce.”
The CKNG further called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration to address the grievances of the civil servants and ensure prompt salary disbursement moving forward.
The group also urged other stakeholders and public interest groups in Kwara State to lend their voices to the plight of civil servants, stressing the need for accountability and transparent governance.
As tension mounts, the delayed salaries and the KWASSRA registration directive are becoming key talking points across Kwara State, with civil servants and advocacy groups rallying for swift action.
