Kwara RUWASSA Intensifies Campaign to End Open Defecation with Stakeholder Engagement in Ifelodun
In its bid to end open defecation in Kwara state, the Kwara state Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) today took it sensitization to Share in Ifelodun local government area of the state.General Manager RUWASSA, Mr. Olorunfemi Oladipo during the stakeholders engagement meeting on clean Kwara campaign in Ifelodun local government area, said the meeting is important to hint the resident about the move of the government under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq on ending open Defecation in the state and enhancing the health of the residents.In a press statement obtained by Just Event Online TV
Mr. Oladipo who noted that the state is rated among states with high prevalence of open defecation practice, emphasized the need for the residents to compliment government efforts in attaining an open Defecation Free Status.
He observed that open defecation contaminates water sources, spread diseases and compromise the well being of the people, adding that beyond health implications, open Defecation also hinders socio economic development by reducing productivity and increasing health care cost, hence the need for collaboration in curbing the menace.
It would be recalled that the Agency has been to oke Ero, Ilorin west, Ilorin south to sensitize the people on the dangers of open Defecation and the need to collaborate with the government in achieving an Open Defecation Free Status.HOD Sanitation and Hygiene,
Mr. Rufai Olawebo observed that the stakeholders engagement meeting is one of the step taking by RUWASSA towards attaining it goal, among other steps is the community led total sanitation, establishment of committee in each local government laise between the people amd the government, distribution and construction of public toilets where needed.in his remark, Chairman Ifelodun local government,
Mr. Femi Yusuf, represented by the head of Administration, Mr Awoniyi Isaiah applauded the government for the development and pledged the readiness of residents in the area in joining the government in attaining the desired goal.
A Community Leader Mr. Amao Kolawole who commended the initiative considering the immense benefit for the people, solicited for stable power supply to the area and provision of public toilets at strategic places.
