In a move to ease traffic flow during the festive season, the Kwara State Government has announced the opening of the road component of the Murtala Muhammed Unity Bridge project. This development takes effect from December 21, 2024.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, during an inspection visit to the project site in Ilorin.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the project, the Commissioner confirmed that while the road will be accessible to the public, the bridge itself remains closed pending further works.
Engr. Olododo used the occasion to caution residents against encroaching on walkways and government setbacks, warning that violators will face strict penalties.
He also called on the public to take ownership of public infrastructure by ensuring proper use and maintenance.
“The Unity Road opening is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the state.
We urge citizens to support this vision and help maintain these facilities for long-term benefits,” he stated.
Joining the Commissioner on the inspection were the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, and the Special Assistant on Infrastructure, Engr. Ladi Yusuf.
Residents have been encouraged to rally behind the government’s efforts to foster development and make Kwara a model state.
The opening of the Unity Road is expected to ease movement within Ilorin, bringing much-needed relief to road users during the yuletide season.
