The Kwara State Government has identified the development of a robust road network and efficient transportation systems as essential drivers of economic growth, aiming to establish the state as Nigeria’s premier business hub.
Hon. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi, the newly appointed State Commissioner for Transportation, made this declaration during his inaugural meeting with the management and staff of the recently formed Ministry of Transportation. This meeting took place on Wednesday as he officially commenced his duties.
In his remarks, Hon. Kora Sabi expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in various high-level capacities within the current administration. He praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his visionary leadership and dedication to transforming the state’s historical narrative into one that fosters pride among its citizens.
He highlighted that the establishment of the new ministry would significantly improve accessibility and streamline the transportation of agricultural goods from rural to urban areas.
This initiative is expected to enhance business opportunities and promote economic relationships with neighboring communities and countries.
“Transportation and the economy are intrinsically linked; movement is a fundamental aspect of human existence.
A well-structured and accessible road network is vital for the state to tap into its economic potential, ensure food security, and facilitate socio-cultural exchanges. This is why prioritizing our transportation system is essential,” he stated.
Hon. Kora Sabi pointed to several significant capital projects already undertaken by the state government, including the innovation hub, garment factory, sugar film factory, the ongoing international conference center, the state judges’ house, the Kwara Internally Generated Revenue House, the Ilorin Smart City initiative, and revitalized road and flyover projects.
He noted that all these efforts are aimed at boosting the state’s economic prosperity.Additionally, he announced government approval for further road construction projects, including the Bode-Sadu/Olooru to Baruten route, which will extend to border areas in the Kwara North Districts and is set to commence soon.
The commissioner urged the management and staff of the Ministry to be proactive, dedicated, and collaborative in striving to achieve the objectives behind the ministry’s creation.
Hajia Medinat Ajao, the Director of Personnel, Finance, and Supply within the Ministry, welcomed the Commissioner and congratulated him on his appointment, assuring him of the staff’s full cooperation.
In a welcoming statement, Engr. Joshua, the Director of Transportation, also greeted the Commissioner, noting the visible impact he has made in previous ministries. He pledged the team’s unwavering support and cooperation to align with the government’s vision and achieve the desired outcomes for Kwara State.
