Official Response Coming After Studying Ruling – Dare AkogunThe National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Ibadan Division, has dismissed the suit challenging the July 31, 2024, Triennial Conference of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The court, presided over by Justice J.D. Peter, ruled against the first claimant, Babajide Fadeyi, awarding ₦100,000 in favor of each of the seven defendants, totaling ₦700,000.
The suit aimed to stop the re-election of Kwara NUJ Chairman, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed.
Defendants in the case included NUJ Chairman Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, former NUJ National President Comrade Christopher Isiguzo, National Secretary Achike Chude, former NUJ Zone ‘D’ Vice President Christopher Atsaka, and members of the Kwara NUJ Credential Screening Committee.
The court also dismissed an application by Dare Akogun seeking to join the suit.Reacting to the ruling, Akogun stated that his application was denied because the original plaintiffs withdrew from the case.He added that an official response would be made public after further discussions with his team on the next steps.
