In a shocking development, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested two young individuals involved in the production and sale of drug-laced cupcakes to students in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The arrests occurred on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Tanke-University of Ilorin Road, Oke Odo, following credible intelligence.
The suspects, 24-year-old Khadijat Abdulraheem, a fresh graduate, and Ayomide Morakinyo, a 20-year-old student of the University of Ilorin, were caught in the act during a raid on their apartment.
A search of the premises yielded 42 pieces of drug-laced cupcakes, locally referred to as “DRŪGGS cakes.”
The NDLEA disclosed that the suspects were operating within the student community, targeting university students with their illicit products.
Investigations revealed that their activities posed a significant threat to the well-being of students in the area.
This arrest underscores the agency’s commitment to combating the distribution of narcotics and maintaining a drug-free environment, especially in educational institutions.
NDLEA officials have assured the public that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law and called on members of the community to report suspicious activities.
