The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Kwara State, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, has slammed Saturday’s local government elections, calling them the worst in Kwara’s history.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin, the state capital, Babatunde described the entire election process as a failure, blaming the Kwara State Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) for poor planning and organization.
He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of planting its members as electoral officers in several polling units, including his own community, Omupo in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before,” Babatunde said. “It’s the worst election ever held in Kwara State. We’re still gathering reports from all 16 local governments. Once we’re done, we’ll decide on the next steps to take.”
In another twist, residents of Offa in Offa Local Government Area were also disappointed by the inability of KWASIEC to conduct free and fair elections in their area.
PDP’s chairmanship candidate in Offa, Mr. Salahudeen Lukman, expressed his frustration, saying that no elections took place in most parts of the council as voting materials didn’t arrive in time.
“Even though the election was meant to start at 8:00 am, by 1:00 pm, 95% of polling units in Offa still didn’t have voting materials,” Lukman explained. “Out of the 173 polling units in Offa LG, only a handful got materials, and even in those few, essential items like ballot papers and result sheets were missing.”
He described the situation as a major disappointment for Offa residents, leaving many unable to vote and raising doubts about the credibility of the entire process.
“We call on KWASIEC to address these issues immediately and reschedule the elections in Offa. The people deserve a free, fair, and credible election,” Lukman urged, adding that citizens should remain calm as they await updates from the authorities.
