In a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector through international collaboration, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Production Services, and Rural Development, hosted a high-powered delegation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday.
The delegation, led by Mr. Christopher Bielecki, Agricultural Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, included Carraway Cassandra, Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy Abuja, and Tolani Abegunde from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a fellow committee member, also joined the discussions.
The meeting explored key strategies for enhancing agricultural trade between Nigeria and the United States, focusing on sustainability, food safety, market access, and trade facilitation. Senator Mustapha emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to boost productivity and foster sustainable practices in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
Representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Senator Mustapha highlighted the potential of Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole to benefit from strengthened international partnerships in agriculture.
He reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that the agricultural sector becomes a driver of economic growth and food security through mutually beneficial trade agreements.
This meeting marks a significant step in aligning Nigeria’s agricultural goals with global best practices, promising greater opportunities for farmers and stakeholders across the sector.
