In a tragic and chilling development, AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired controller of works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, was brutally killed by suspected assassins in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. The incident occurred on Wednesday at about 3 p.m. at his residence on Dele Gege Street, off Awolowo Road, in the Tanke area.
Mr. Ajani had just returned home with his wife and children from a trip to his hometown, Offa, when four assailants, believed to be in their twenties, infiltrated his compound.
Caught on CCTV
CCTV footage from the premises reveals that two of the attackers lingered outside the gate while the other two casually entered the compound. One suspect was even seen sipping water from a plastic bottle. Moments later, the retired officer approached the intruders, engaging them in what appeared to be a conversation at his doorstep.
Tragically, this encounter turned deadly. Witnesses who reviewed the CCTV described how the men suddenly overpowered Mr. Ajani, forcing him face down and attacking him with what appeared to be small axes.
The victim’s family, horrified by the unfolding scene, could only watch as the attackers completed their grisly act and fled the scene. Neighbors were alerted by the cries of the family but arrived too late to intervene.
Life of Service Cut Short
AbdulRazaq Ajani, a civil engineer by profession, retired from the Federal Ministry of Works four years ago but had recently taken on a contract role with the ministry. His assassination has left the Tanke community in shock and mourning.
Police Response and Investigation
By the time journalists arrived at the scene, Mr. Ajani’s body had been removed by the police. As of now, no official statement has been released by the Kwara State Police Command regarding the incident.
Residents are calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and improve security in the area, as the tragedy raises concerns about safety in the once-peaceful neighborhood.
