The Kwara State Chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YUSFON) Chairman, Alhaji Ademola Kiyesola, and Ilorin West Local Government Football Council Chairman, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Owolabi Wopa, have showered praise on Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles star, Taiwo Awoniyi, for his pivotal role in completing the Kwara SWAN Secretariat project.
Their commendations came during the official draws for the Kwara SWAN Media Games 2024, part of the SWAN Week celebrations.
Alhaji Kiyesola reflected on the significant foundation laid years ago by the late Elerin of Erinle, Oba AbdulGaniyu Olusokun, and acknowledged Awoniyi’s dedication to grassroots sports development in Kwara State. He noted that Awoniyi’s contributions, rooted in his ties to YUSFON, highlight his commitment to uplifting sports in his home state.
Echoing similar sentiments, Alhaji Wopa expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and pledged additional support to ensure the Secretariat’s timely completion. Both leaders applauded Kwara SWAN’s leadership for their efforts in promoting sports through accurate and impactful reportage.
Building Bonds Through Sports
Chief Alloy Chukuwemaka, Chairman of the SWAN Media Games Committee, described the upcoming event as a platform to foster unity, promote healthy living, and strengthen bonds among sportswriters. Represented by the committee’s technical consultant, Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi, he assured that the games would be conducted with the highest level of professionalism.
The highly anticipated games, scheduled for December 19, 2024, at the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin, feature an exciting lineup of competitions:
- Squash: Radio Kwara vs. Sportspro News
- Badminton: Kwara Television vs. Online
- Scrabble: NTA vs. State Information
- Darts: Herald Newspaper vs. Correspondents
- Table Tennis: Radio Nigeria Harmony FM vs. Sobi FM (male and female categories)
