Ilorin, Kwara State, was struck by tragedy in the early hours of Monday when a fire outbreak at No. 158, Ile Alaparun Isale, Alore, claimed the life of a 41-year-old man identified as AbdulFatai from Ile Alate, Abayawo.
The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed that the incident occurred around 2:07 am. A fire truck and its crew were swiftly dispatched to the scene, where they managed to contain the blaze and prevent further devastation.
According to a statement signed by PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Fire Service, firefighters successfully saved 30 out of 35 rooms in the affected building. However, five rooms were damaged in the fire.
The statement revealed that preliminary investigations pointed to spontaneous ignition in a room storing combustible materials as the cause of the fire.
Expressing his sorrow over the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. He also urged residents to prioritize fire safety and adhere to preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
This unfortunate event serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of fire outbreaks, underscoring the importance of vigilance and proactive safety practices in households and communities.
